Ferry Corsten’s playing at Marquee on Saturday night. Coming off a show at Ultra in Miami, the DJ, Producer, and label owner of Flashover Recordings graced us with an interview. Read below to learn a little about Corsten’s experience with Betsie Larkin on “Not Coming Down,” his new mobile app, and his take on Mix Mag’s nomination of his track “Punk” as one of the greatest dance beats of all time.
You recently released an acoustic version of “Not Coming Down” – what process do you go through when deciding which tracks get an acoustic remix?
It is not a process in which I decide whether or not make an acoustic version of a certain track. The idea really came from nowhere. I was in my studio and thought, why not? When I started working on the track it immediately felt good. Besides that (Betsie's) voice is really great for an acoustic remix.
What was it like working with Betsie Larkin on the track?
I have already worked together with Betsie in the past which was a great experience back then. Just like then this was a great experience and it is always a pleasure working with an artist like Betsie.
Your mobile app is now available – what types of offers will your fans find on it?
We recently redesigned the whole app, giving it a much ‘smoother’ look and feel. Via the app you can listen to my weekly radio show Corsten’s Countdown and you can also vote for your favorite track. You can also check out photos of my shows, get the latest merchandise and maybe even become Fan of the Week! Everybody can download the app for free and it is available for the iPhone and Android. Make sure to check out my website www.ferrycorsten.com for more info about the app.
Mix Mag recently nominated your song “Punk” as one of the greatest dance tracks of all time. In your opinion, what elements must any great (or the greatest) dance track have?
For one, I think it is almost impossible to pick one track as the greatest of all time. Over the years there have been so many great tracks that are all really good in there own way. I think it’s more of a feeling you need to have with a track for it to be good rather then certain element. If I would have to pick an element though it would be the melody.
