Get your trance pants on, because the king of the genre has entered the building. German DJ/producer Markus Schulz begins his year-long monthly residency at Marquee Nightclub & Dayclub on February 25
, but that’s not all the dance music icon has going on.
We already know Schulz loves Sin City. The 2010 installment of his Armada-released mix series was inspired by Las Vegas. “I spent quite a lot of time focusing on what types of trance and progressive rocked hardest in Sin City,” says Schulz. He adds, “I love playing in Las Vegas and I think Marquee is one of the most impressive additions to come to the scene there since the turn of the Millennium.”
To get a preview of the sounds clubbers will experience at Marquee, Vegas ’10 lays the groundwork. But proving he has his finger on the pulse of what trance fans are looking for, listen no further than the recently released Prague ’11 installment of his Armada mix series.
“Prague’11 is designed to reflect not only what’s happening in the city in the hear-and-now, but also my many musical experiences in the Czech Republic at large,” says Schulz, who plays the Czech capital city twice a year. “Underground spots like Mecca, multi-tier super-clubs like SaSaZu and world-class arena events like Transmission have all cumulatively played their part. The clubbing population has embraced trance and progressive music on a grand scale and this is me holding a mirror up to it.”
Incorporating brand new tracks straight from producers’ studios, the two CDs of Prague ’11
include songs from Wippenberg, Rex Mundi and Markus Schulz’s own big room reconstructions of Pobsky, Aerofoil and Snatt & Vix. For a preview, check out Schulz’s special podcast megamix of Prague ’11
. The album is also out now for digital download on iTunes
and the 2 CD set via Armada
